Got Fish
June 16th, 2008Ahoy mateys,
It has taken me years to see and experience the full spectrum of the Doctors Lake fishing potential. I absolutely hate bridges and fishing where traffic is overhead continuously. It almost doesn’t matter about catching fish, but fun time on the water and cars flying by just don’t mix. That’s ALL CHANGED for me now. I have seen the light.
It is the month of June and many people are catching stripers daily. I can’t bloody believe this. Now keep it deep and hit them up around the columns of the bridge. I have seen them caught on shrimp both live and dead. We are getting a few shrimp popping up on deck whenever we pull spuds on the barges. I am at that bridge all day fro 0700 until 2000 hours many days. I’m glad to give it up. I wet a line now and again but I get to watch a variety of anglers try various tactics, some work and some don’t. Some people give up too soon. I found the most productive time is right when the flood tide starts in. When the first ripple bounces off the face of the pilings, ITS ON!
Cover some ground too, don’t be bashful. No such thing as a fishing hole………Fish are on the move, you should be too. If you can figure out how to work this blog then feel free to reply and put your report in. I am still working out the bugs but share your story.
Try bone colored soft baits, gold and black combos, big worms or two tone plastics that look like and eel. Bone colored is best. I am using a bit of a larger bait at that and get more strikes that way. When you get one, everyone should repel boarders and throw a line because that school is on the warpath, force the strike and work the bait with at least a 3/8 ounce jig head let it fall close to the bottom. Get some!
